Yard operations

Every job in the yard, in one system.

Most yards run on a weighbridge printout, a spreadsheet of prices, a drawer of ID photocopies, and a bookkeeper stitching it together on Monday. AltScrap replaces that chain with one record per purchase — captured at the counter, priced from your own list, paid through your own accounts, and reportable the moment an auditor asks.

The operating loop · 04 stages

What a day in the yard actually looks like.

The software follows the material, not an abstract workflow. Each stage hands the next one everything it needs, so nothing gets re-keyed and nothing goes missing between the scale and the bank.

01 / Intake

The seller arrives.

Look up a returning seller by phone, or capture a new one with photo ID on the spot. Pre-registered sellers are already in the system before they reach the counter.

02 / Weigh & grade

The material is priced.

Choose the item, enter the weight, apply deductions for contamination. The price comes from your own catalogue at that store, for that seller’s tier — not from memory.

03 / Pay

The seller is paid.

PayID, bank transfer, manual transfer or cheque, recorded against the transaction. Supplier purchases generate the RCTI rather than waiting on the supplier to invoice you.

Multi-store · 03 controls

Built for more than one yard.

Prices differ between sites, staff move between them, and head office needs one view across the lot. That is the default assumption here, not an enterprise upgrade.

01

Prices set centrally, overridden locally

Publish a company price list, then override any item at any store when the local market moves. Staff at the counter never type a price.

02

Staff scoped to the stores they work

A counter operator sees their own site. A manager sees several. Access follows the person, not a shared login taped to the monitor.

03

Reporting across every site at once

Sales Summary and Item Breakdown roll up across stores or filter down to one, over today, this week, this month, or any custom range.

Questions · 05

Before you ask us.

What is yard management software?

Yard management software runs the operational side of a scrap or recycling yard: identifying the seller, recording what was bought at what weight and grade, applying the right price, paying the seller, and keeping the compliance record that dealer legislation requires. It sits where a POS, a price list, a compliance folder and a payment run would otherwise be four separate systems.

Do I need a weighbridge integration to use AltScrap?

No. Weights are entered at the counter alongside the item, grade and any deductions, so AltScrap works with whatever weighing equipment you already have — floor scales, platform scales or a weighbridge ticket.

Can different stores pay different prices for the same material?

Yes. You publish a company-wide catalogue, then override individual item prices per store. Pricing tiers layer on top of that, so a regular commercial supplier and a walk-in seller can be paid different rates for the same item at the same site.

How long does it take to get a yard running?

Setting up a company, adding a store with its hours and address, loading a materials list with prices, and inviting counter staff is same-day work. The branded customer portal goes live on your subdomain as soon as the store is added.

Does AltScrap replace my accounting system?

No — it feeds it. Purchases, payouts and supplier bills sync through to MYOB or Xero, so the yard keeps operating in AltScrap and your accountant keeps working where they already work.
