Point of sale · Counter

The counter, on one device.

A scrap counter is not a retail checkout. You are buying, not selling; the price depends on grade and contamination; the person in front of you has to be identified and recorded. AltScrap’s counter app is built around that reality, and it runs on the tablet or phone your staff already hold.

Fast where it should be, strict where it must be.

Speed matters when there are four utes in the queue. So does never letting an unidentified purchase through. The counter flow is ordered so the compliance step happens once, up front, and everything after it is quick.

01 / Identify

Know who you bought from.

Search a returning seller by phone in a keystroke. For a new seller, capture the photo ID and their details once — every later purchase reuses it.

02 / Weigh & price

Grade it, weigh it, price it.

Pick the item from your catalogue, enter weight, apply deductions. The rate is drawn from the store’s price list and the seller’s tier, so nobody negotiates from memory.

Why it holds up · 03 realities

Designed for a yard, not an office.

Counter software fails in predictable ways: it assumes clean hands, good signal, and one store. These are the assumptions we deliberately did not make.

01

One device, start to finish

ID capture, weight entry, pricing, payment and receipt all happen in the same app on the same device. No walking to the office to finish a purchase.

02

Staff can’t quietly change a price

Rates come from the catalogue you control. Deductions are entered as deductions, so an unusual purchase shows up as an unusual purchase in the reports.

03

The record is written as you go

The compliance register, the seller history and the day’s takings are all a by-product of the counter flow — not a second job someone does at close.

Questions · 04

Before you ask us.

What hardware do I need for the counter?

A phone or tablet is enough — the counter app captures photo ID with the device camera and works on iOS and Android. You keep whatever scales or weighbridge you already use and enter the weight alongside the item.

Can staff process a purchase without capturing ID?

The flow puts identification first: an existing seller is matched to their stored record, and a new seller is captured with photo ID before the purchase is completed. That is what makes the Compliance Register and ID Verification reports meaningful.

How do sellers get a receipt?

Each completed purchase produces a receipt at a shareable link the seller can open on their phone without an account or a login. Nothing needs to be printed unless you want it to be.

Can I take multiple materials in a single transaction?

Yes. A purchase can contain multiple lines — each with its own item, weight and deductions — and pays out as one transaction with one receipt.

Ready when you are

Watch a purchase go through.

The fastest way to judge counter software is to see a real purchase completed end to end. That takes about ten minutes of a demo.
